Interview Copyright of Nyce1 Unleashed 17/01/2008

We take time out to catch up with Phil after his mini tour of New Zealand for our second interview ahead of his Nyce1 debut on the 8th March @ our new venue and 1st Birthday Party @ Blue Mountain Club, Bristol!!

Phil thanks to agreeing to be interviewed by Nyce1 Unleashed…. Before we get into the usual questions, lets find out a bit more about you…

N1- First off as way of introduction could you please give us a quick rundown of the following: Your age, location, star sign, Best and worst Christmas present this year, oh and one more for good measure boxers or Y Fronts…;0)

PR - Well I’m 35. I live in London. My star sign is Taurus. The best present was a pair of studio headphones. The worst was a bar of soap!!!! Boxers all the way!

N1- Thanks That one is in there for all your female fans and Apart from DJing what other interests do you have I have read you are into Mountain biking & snowboarding, tell us more about this? I know its cynical but any nasty falls slips or trips – a reason to call the accident Helpline perhaps….

PR - I’ve only been snowboarding a few times. It’s very hard work trying to learn. You fall over a lot. I haven’t damaged myself too much so far. I did however manage to break my collarbone and fracture my leg whilst riding my bike quiet a few years ago. That was very painful. I also run quite a bit and try and keep myself fit. I used to run years ago and completed the London Marathon twice finishing 233rd in 1994 in a time of 2hr 35mins. Other than that I just like to relax.

N1 - Relax, I should think so after all that – congrats on running the marathon Phil, that’s a feat in itself!

N1 - Have you ever been involved in a mobile disco, if not would you, or maybe have you been asked to do somebody’s wedding, birthday etc?

PR - Ha ha, nope. Never been involved. If someone asked me to play at their wedding I might do it. I’ve played a few birthday parties though.

N1 - What was the first record you ever bought? Mine was Anna lee two times. Is yours just as embarrassing?

PR - I can’t really remember my first record. It was a long time ago and I’m sure it would have been very embarrassing.

N1 - How much preparation goes into one of your gigs, what do you have instore for Nyce1 Unleashed on the 8th March!

PR - It really depends on where I’m playing and at what time. If I’m playing in London I don’t really have to worry about it, but if I’m out of London I have to bring loads of classics with me.

N1 - Have you been caught up in the Facebook, Myspace Craze – which do you prefer and why – or are the both just as bloody annoying.

PR- I use both. Myspace is good for networking and promoting what gig’s you have coming up and what tunes you have coming out. It’s almost like having your own website. There is a lot of spamming on there, which is annoying at times. Facebook is great for catching up with old friends and old clubbing mates. I’ve come across loads of old mates on there.

N1 - I read that you have been working on your first Solo Album tell us about this

PR - The album is called Digital Revolution. I’ve finished it and it is all mixed. I’m just waiting for the artwork. It will be available from my myspace page soon (www.myspace.com/djphilreynolds). It features my collaborations ‘Wanna go for a ride’ and ‘Open your mind’ with Technikal. It also features tracks with Greg Brookman, Nick Rowland, Mda & Spherical and Matt Williams.

N1 - What was your highlight, and Low Light in 2007?

PR - The highlight was my gig in Argentina. It was amazing. The low point was not getting my album released.

N1 - You also run a night called “Groove Factory” tell us a bit about this

PR - I’m not involved with running it anymore. It was a house night that a few of my mate ran at a venue in clapham, London. I really enjoyed playing there, as I love my house and electro. I don’t get to play it as much as I would like. So if theres anyone out there that would like to book me for a house set get in touch!!!!!

N1 - Jaimie Nyce1's fellow promoter (Dj Worm) enjoys sucking on M&MS when Djing. Do you prefer M&Ms or Skittles?

PR - Ha ha ha... Peanut M &M’s all the way.

N1 - Finally, what’s coming up for you at the moment? Any releases or forthcoming news that Nyce1 Unleashed should know about?

PR - Well the album should be out soon. I’ve still got a few tunes to release off the album. I’ve also got a remix of an old tune, Back to abs, coming out on Fevah. The next release from my label is also due out soon. Which is called Desire by Elements.
